New Guatemalan Variety

posted on February 5th 2015 in News with 0 Comments

We’ve brought in a brand new variety of Guatemalan!  A Peaberry variety from the Antigua region to be specific.  A peaberry is a natural mutation of the coffee bean that occurs within the cherry; producing only a single bean per cherry rather than the typical two halves most people find.  This is a tribute to the farm’s high standards during the processing and sorting of the coffee they’ve grown because there’s no way to tell just from looking at the cherry itself.

Peaberry beans get a little spoiled not having to share so they tend to produce a flavor profile that’s sweeter and more flavorful than their distant brothers and sisters.  Only 5% of all the coffee beans produced annually can call themselves Peaberry so you gotta think there’s something special brewing with these guys.
